Addiction Therapy in Los Angeles
You don't have to wait for a crisis to ask for help. Whether you're questioning your substance use, working toward recovery, or worried about returning to old patterns, therapy can give you space to understand what's happening and consider your next steps.
I offer online addiction therapy for adults in Los Angeles and throughout California. I also offer consultation for family members and loved ones who need support finding appropriate treatment.
You Don’t Have to Hit Rock Bottom
You may be concerned about your drinking or drug use without knowing what to call it. Maybe you’ve tried to cut back, had a return to use, or feel unsure whether your situation is “serious enough” to talk about.
You don’t need to prove that things are bad enough. We can start with what’s happening now and what you want to be different.
Therapy can support people dealing with:
- Alcohol or drug use
- Early sobriety and recovery
- Relapse concerns or a return to use
- Emotional triggers, stress, or cravings
- Shame, secrecy, or self-criticism
- Relationship strain and codependency
- Uncertainty about what kind of support would help
- Using substances to self-medicate
Understanding What the Addiction Is Doing for You
Substance use can serve different purposes for different people. It may offer relief, numb difficult feelings, reduce anxiety, or help you feel connected. Understanding what the pattern does for you can help us identify other ways to respond to the needs beneath it.
We can explore your triggers, relationships, emotions, and goals without reducing you to a label.
My Background in Addiction Treatment
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in medical settings and inpatient mental health and addiction treatment programs. That experience shaped how I think about recovery: it can involve emotional, relational, and practical changes, and people may need different kinds of support at different times. I have extensive experience with 12-Step recovery in various programs and have maintained my own sobriety since 2016.
In therapy, I bring a warm, direct, nonjudgmental approach. We can work on understanding patterns, strengthening coping skills, and identifying next steps that fit your situation.
Therapy and Recovery
Outpatient psychotherapy can support recovery by helping you understand triggers, work through difficult emotions, improve relationships, and build skills for change. It can be part of a broader recovery plan that may also include medical care, medication, peer support, or a more structured treatment program.
My online therapy is not detox or 24-hour care. If you need medical supervision, a higher level of support, or help deciding what’s appropriate, we can talk about connecting with the right services. Alcohol withdrawal can be medically dangerous, so talk with a healthcare professional before stopping suddenly if you may be physically dependent.
If relationship patterns or codependency are part of what you’re working through, you can also read about therapy for sex, love, and relationship patterns.
Common Questions
Do I have to hit rock bottom before starting addiction therapy?
No. You can reach out when you're concerned, curious, or ready to make a change. We can talk about what's happening and what kind of support may fit.
Can therapy help if I'm still using substances?
You can talk openly about your current use and what you want to change. We'll consider whether outpatient therapy is an appropriate fit or whether additional support would be helpful.
What if I need detox or a higher level of care?
Detox and around-the-clock support require medical or specialized treatment services. If that level of care may be needed, we can discuss appropriate next steps and how outpatient therapy might fit alongside other support. I can offer support to connect you with appropriate facilities in your area.
